July 2026 Keep Up With Current Legislation for Child Nutrition Programs
What’s new: Three recently introduced bills would expand or support child nutrition efforts through mandatory Summer EBT participation, grants for school milk storage equipment, and funding for summer enrichment programs that provide free meals to eligible children.
Key details:
- HR 9265: The bill mandates all states and covered Indian Tribal organizations participating in the National School Lunch Program must also participate in the summer EBT program, beginning in summer 2027.
- HR 9164: The FRESH Act creates a federal grant program to help schools and related organizations acquire and install milk storage equipment, with up to $4 million annually authorized from 2027 to 2031.
- S 4847: The Summer for All Act aims to provide federal grants to expand summer enrichment programs that must offer free meals to youth eligible for free or reduced-priced lunch.
