COVID-19-SNA-and-You-Working-Together-to-Protect-School-Nutrition-ProgramsLegislative and regulatory advocacy to protect and improve the federal school meal programs is considered one of the highest-value services SNA provides to the school nutrition profession. Throughout 2020, SNA has been relentless in its efforts to get members the regulatory flexibility and financial support they need to serve children and families, keep staff employed and safe and maintain financially sound programs. That challenge continues into 2021, as school meals will be critical to our nation’s successful recovery from the pandemic.

In its tenth article in its ongoing COVID-19 digital supplement series, School Nutrition reviews how the past year sets the stage for an ambitious agenda for grassroots advocacy on the part of all school nutrition professionals. This includes the permanent expansion of the National School Lunch and School Breakfast Programs to offer all students school meals at no charge as part of the educational experience. This article also looks forward to SNA’s 49th annual Legislative Action Conference, including reflections from former Secretary of Agriculture Dan Glickman in advance of his moderating a conversation on bipartisan leadership with former politicos Andrew Card and Leon Panetta.
