To maintain high quality food services with nutritious and desirable meals, while
remaining financially self-sustaining and encouraging innovative ideas of management
and food service to increased student participation within the program budget.
Administer and direct the District child nutrition services program in compliance with
federal and state laws and regulations, local and state health ordinances, and
District policies.
● Evaluate and update the child nutrition services program, keeping abreast of
innovations and developments in the field.
● Plan and develop goals for a comprehensive, financially self-sustaining, child
nutrition services program.
● Establish and implement budgeting and financial management systems consistent
with local, state, and federal requirements.
● Establish and implement procedures for adequate control of foods, supplies,
equipment, and labor.
● Supervise the preparation of accurate reports in food, labor, and operating costs.
● Monitor income and expenditures and compare to budget on a regular basis.
● Establish financial policies that will permit the serving of nutritional and satisfying
meals.
Supervise and direct all food service staff with regard to performance in food
preparations, service, sanitation, and accountability.
● Monitor staffing formulas and performance standards for all food service personnel.
● Develop and implement a plan for professional growth and certification for the child
nutrition staff providing appropriate inservice training.
● Prepare handbooks and procedural manuals for child nutrition staff.
● Monitor system for the procurement, distribution, receiving, and storage of food and
non-food materials and establish inventory control factors.
● Evaluate specifications for food and non-food materials.
● Determine facility and kitchen equipment needs and assist in planning the physical
structure of the child nutrition service facilities.
● Monitor sanitation standards and system for control of microbiological infection that
complies with federal (OSHA), state, and local safety regulations.
● Maintain child nutrition program marketing system for the District and establish
procedures for conducting surveys to determine customer satisfaction and
preferences and District needs.
● Implement standards for operating a nutritional program that serves appealing food
that is highly nutritional.
● Facilitate the application of dietary guidelines in menu planning and recipe
modification and evaluate current research data and apply that which is relevant.
● Develop and recommend changes in child nutrition services program policies and
procedures to District administrators, including policies and procedures related to
processing and cashiering.
● Maintain effective working relationships with appropriate members of all departments
in the District.
● Keep supervisor apprised of child nutrition operations on a regular basis.
● Consult and resolve with site administrators any problems of mutual concern
involving the child nutrition services or personnel.
● Attend meetings, workshops, and in-service training.
● Maintain compliance with USDA and ADE guidelines related to free or reduced lunch
programs and meal reimbursements and maximize student and family participation
within those program guidelines.
● Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Meets current eligibility criteria of the Arizona Department of Education to serve as a
public school district’s food and nutrition Director (including a Bachelor’s degree in
Nutrition or other equivalent experience and education to maintain eligibility criteria).
● Successful prior experience with supervision in a management level position in a
public school district child nutrition program serving a diverse student population.
● School Nutrition Association (SNA) credential preferred.
● Demonstrated administrative skills and leadership ability.
● Demonstrated ability to prioritize matters and multi-task with multiple projects and
competing priorities.
● Demonstrated ability to solve problems independently and collaboratively.
● Demonstrated ability to communicate in oral and written form.
● Bilingual (Spanish) preferred.
